Day 44 - San Angelo, TX

Today was a long (334 miles) travel day.  It was sunny all day and the temperature reached 94° when we arrived in San Angelo.  We had a strong cross-wind for the first half of the trip.

Leaving Amarillo ...
Our two-day stay here was very enjoyable.  We spent most of the time exploring Palo Duro Canyon.  Everything missing from our site's appearance was irrelevant.  We left at 10am.

(was like a "stall")

The Route:
We took I-27 south from Amarillo to Lubbock (where I-27 ended), then US-87 south from Lubbock through Lamesa and Big Spring to San Angelo.

Observations:
The route passed through huge fields of wheat, milo and cotton.  We saw lots of oil wells, too.  There were only three cities of any size.

The flat High Plains slowly changed to gently rolling hills.

The Campground:
Carol did it again!  She found a delightful place to stay where there didn't seem to be many available.  We arrived at Spring Creek Marina & RV Park at 6pm.  It sits along the shore of Lake Nasworthy.

This site has all of the "personality" that was missing in Amarillo.  On the other hand, the amenities aren't managed nearly as well.  Oh, well.

We have a nice lake view

Tomorrow:
We're heading for Austin and will spend a few days with Bruce and Barbara Stevenson, our "Texas Buckeye" buddies.  Rumor has it that we may watch the Ohio State vs. Wisconsin game together on Saturday ... Go Bucks!
