We stayed inside and waited for the weather to improve. Carol did laundry and Dick worked on the blog. We finally decided to drive to Sedona just to "get out of the house".
The Drive to Sedona:
A terrific downpour started a few minutes after we got on the road. The rain came so hard and fast that cars couldn't drive in the curb lane (it was flooded). It rained all the way to Sedona. The route route has dramatic views of red mountains and sharp turns. They must look great on a sunny day.
Heading toward Sedona on AZ-89 The scenes are beautiful, but shrouded today |
Sedona is definitely a tourist town wrapped in red rocks. It offers lots of activities for visitors.
We window shopped and had a delightful Mexican dinner at Oaxaca Restaurant and Cantina. Carol got some great fudge at The Sedona Fudge Company.
Some blue sky started to peek through the clouds. We decided to extend our adventure by going to Montezuma Castle.
On the way south from Sedona ...
Montezuma Castle:
Southern Sinagua farmers built this five-story, 20-room dwelling sometime between 1100 and 1300.

They made Cavates for shelter and storage (they extend about 10 feet into the cliff) |
Scenes from the 50 mile trip back to Flagstaff ...
The Campground:
The day ended a lot better than it started. The entire trip back to the campground was in sunshine.
