A few observations about Arizona before we leave ...
- You can find any kind of terrain you like here.
- There are more mountains than we expected.
- There is lots of open space out here.
- There are more RV and mobile home parks than we've seen anywhere.
- Except during monsoon season, it's hot and dry.
The Route:
We drove 273 miles today on I-10 and ended up in Las Cruces.
Observations:
The drive in Arizona was pleasant. It was mostly sunny.
There are lots of silly signs out here |
The Arizona terrain changed from wide, flat desert, to mountains to boulders |
The drive in New Mexico got a bit stressful. We encountered a number of intense showers.
The entrance to New Mexico was pleasant |
It didn't stay that way |
Fortunately, conditions improved when we got to Las Cruces |
Deming, NM isn't a place we'd like to visit again. We couldn't even find a decent gas station there.
The Campground:
We stopped at Sunny Acres RV Park in Las Cruces. The park is located inside the city and is dated ... but, the negatives end there. The sites are clean, level and shaded. The owner greeted us and was delightful. The park is very peaceful.
Site #24 |
After getting set up, we ventured out for dinner. We had Mexican in mind ... and found a great choice at Las Trancas Restaurant. It's advertised as a "local favorite" and we found it to be true. The parking lot was full and the dining room was very busy. Our meals were delicious and service was excellent.
