A heavy downpour arrived this morning. The trailer ended up sitting in quite a pool. We took a short sightseeing drive, then headed north.
The Route:
Our 137 mile trip was very simple. We drove to Corpus Christi (retracing part of yesterday's trip), got onto TX-35 and drove to Palacios.
Mustang Island - after the rain:
The trailer got wet feet |
The beach parking got flooded |
Mustang Island - beach tour:
The beach was literally "just around the corner".
Oil rigs lined the horizon |
Some camp on the beach |
Others drive on the beach (our campground is beyond the dune) |
Gulls stood guard against the ocean breeze |
Mustang Island - heading out:
The only thing missing is "k" |
The coastal drive along TX-361 is really barren |
This bridge takes us over the Laguna Madre to Corpus Christi |
Passing Corpus Christi - JFK Memorial Causeway:
Up and over the bridge we go |
The causeway carries us to the city |
Passing Corpus Christi - Nueces Bay Causeway:
TX-35 takes us north out of the city and over the Harbor Bridge.
Harbor Bridge |
USS Lexington Museum (below the bridge) |
Alcoa plant in the distance (from the causeway) |
Thunderstorms popped up throughout the day |
Many refineries line this coast |
Hmm ... we passed on this bridge |
We hit an intense thunderstorm between Fulton and Port Lavaca. The wipers were running at top speed and we still could barely see. We had to drive with the flashers on.
The Campground:
This move was a great idea. We're staying in a marina site at Serendipity Bay Resort RV Park and Marina. The temperature here is 15° lower than this morning, the humidity is much lower and the Gulf breeze is keeping the mosquitoes away. The scenery is pretty cool, too.
Site #32 backs right up to the docks |
We like the value at $25.57/day (water, electric, sewer, cable TV & internet included) |
Or, we could have gotten this place at $149/day |
This swing and view may help us solve the world's problems |
There are lots of sailboats here |
It's dark and peaceful here after dark. A gentle breeze cools the trailer, boat rigging bumps softly and moonlight reflects on the ripples. This is truly a good night.
